My first impression of the novel was that this novel will show how africans really act. This book seemed odd at first but after some reading i realized that this book completely changed my views about Africa.
I feel that the Igbo are a very diverse culture that have many different traditions than ours. They do have things that are better than ours but mainly due to urbanization, religion and industrilization, the United States has alot more modern and "up to date" technologies. The Igbo have certain rituals that they perform that are "taboo" to us. We bury all of our dead in the ground, whereas if someone is sick in the Igbo tribe, they are left in the middle of the Evil Forest.
One way that the Igbo tribes and us are different, is that they believe in having more than one wife. That can have its advantages but at most points it cant.

In the igbo ceremony, the suitor brings the family of the bride an excessive amount of palm wine to pay for her bride price which is later consumed by the entire "entourage". In our ceremonies, the man proposes to the women and after they are engaged, the man and women wait an average of a half a year to a year. Then they choose a day and they go to a church to be married. The "bride-price" for our ceremonies is a ring, costing a couple of thousands of dollars. Our ceremonies are alike in one way, they both are very festive and full of dance. They both celebrate about the marriage of two people and they hopefully they will be together forever.
